E73 Xbox 360 error code | Tinker Mods
The big problem
The E73 error starts to get into the famous territory. This error code comes from the famous RROD issue that was and is so common place on the Xbox 360 console. This one is caused by design flaws in the console that cause cold solder joints under the GPU of the motherboard. So what can you do to repair it? Let's talk about it.
Advanced repairs
The E73 error code revolves around the GPU and the ANA/HANA chips (located near the A/V port). No matter which way you look at it this repair will require you to perform a reflow on the chip. Reballing or replacing the chip is also an option. Attempting this repair is useless without the right knowledge or equipment. A typical fix would be replacing the motherboard with a new one like these
X-clamp fix
Just so you understand, I only partially support this repair method, and as a permanent solution this is not your best bet. However, you can attempt the X-Clamp repair to fix. This requires using third party machine bolts and washers to replace the X-clamps that are found underneath the motherboard. This is a bit tighter on the GPU/CPU heatsink which can fix cold solder joints under the chips. However, this is rarely a permanent fix and will usually only buy you a few weeks or months. This is a great way to keep you gaming while you find a replacement console or motherboard, not a great way to fix it permanently. If you have the E73 error on your Xbox 360 console, you can use this method. Just keep in mind you will need a plan B.
