E16 Xbox 360 error code | Tinker Mods

E16 Diagnosis

The E16 Xbox 360 error code is directly related to the RAM chips on the motherboard. There are many issues that can cause this error to occur. However, the E16 code is primarily caused by two issues. The official read-out for this error is the RAM vendor ID is wrong or not detected.

The Wrong Ram chips

If you have completed a re-ball or ram chip replacement on your Xbox 360 console, You could have used the incorrect RAM chips. If this happens the vendor code will not match the kernel read-out while your Xbox 360 is running. You will need to replace the Ram chips with identical ones to those originally on the motherboard. The E16 Xbox 360 error code has one other cause as well, read below.

Vendor ID not detected

If no repairs have been attempted before getting this error, This is more than likely a cold solder joint under a RAM chip. The E16 error code can be fixed by re-balling or reflowing the ram chips (correctly). You can also replace them all together. If you do, just make sure they are identical replacements to the originals or you will continue to get this error. These are advanced repair techniques and typically difficult, expensive, and time consuming to have done. You can also find a replacement motherboard and matching daughter board like one of these. This may require some soldering on some models. However, it is none the less do-able for novices or less experienced individuals.
