Original Xbox 500GB Hard drive list | Tinker Mods
Introduction
With this list we venture to the 500GB hard drives that are compatible with the original Xbox console. Please note that there are far fewer 500GB drives made in the IDE format as most systems had converted to SATA at this point. I have added some IDE HDDs to this list but had to also add some SATA hard drives as well. Keep in mind that the Sata drives need the IDE to SATA adapter and in many cases you will also need an 80 wire IDE cable. Luckily the Sata versions are usually the cheapest and easiest to find, so in some cases the extra cost of the adaptor can be made up with a cheaper HDD.
This should not be considered a complete all in one list as there have been compatibly charts for decades now. The purpose here is to compile some drives that had very high production numbers and are usually more widely available in the modern times of 2025 and beyond. This should help you shop around for the 500GB hard you need to upgrade your original Xbox console without taking forever or breaking the bank. I have also personally used every hard drive on this list and can confirm it is a lockable hard drive that is compatible with the original Xbox console.
