Original Xbox Error 10 | Tinker Mods

It's your disc drive

Well, it's technically your disc drive. Error 10 on the original Xbox populates when the DVD drive times out. Let's start with the easy stuff. Check your IDE and disc drive power cable to make sure they are connected properly, not backwards, etc. Error 10 usually happens after you assemble the original Xbox console and didn't quite push a connector all the way in. If you try this and have no results, you should try to replace that IDE cable as well as the power cable with something like this replacement IDE cable. If none of that clears out the error 10 on your original Xbox, you'll have to get a little more advanced. Keep reading for that.

Once troubleshooting doesn't work

It's time to move on to other things you can try. If you've done all the troubleshooting above and got no results, then error 10 is being thrown by the disc drive itself. Many times something with the PCB inside the disc drive is throwing the code. If you have an extra disc drive, install that one and see what happens. If the console boots without the error, then the PCB is bad. You can replace that PCB to fix your problem. However, most people don't have a matching PCB laying around. Most people want to replace the entire drive at this point. You can replace your disc drive with something like these original Xbox disc drive replacements.
