What to check
This is a common error on the original Xbox console as it usually happens when the IDE cable isn't properly connected to the hard drive. The 08 error can usually be fixed by adjusting the IDE ribbon. If you are positive the connectors are all good, the IDE cable may be damaged. You can find a replacement IDE cable here. If you're at this point and still can't get your original Xbox error 08 to clear from the console. We need to look into the hard drive itself!
Troubleshooting the HDD
The HDD is your next possible cause for the 08 error on an original Xbox. Since you all ready checked the IDE cable, check the power cable for the hard drive the same way you did before. Next check the header/jumper area and make sure the drive is set to master and not slave. If you still have no results you might have an HDD that is gone totally bad. This would also mean the motherboard is nearly useless without heavy modification and knowledge. If you know how to null EEPROM's manually and have the equipment, you can at least save the motherboard. Otherwise, you would need to get an original Xbox motherboard replacement just like these and switch them out.
